WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Roanoke College pulled away with a strong third quarter on its way to a 15-4 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Wednesday night on the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.
Roanoke (9-4, 5-1 ODAC) scored seven of eight goals in the third period to end any SU (5-8, 1-4) thoughts of an upset.
The Maroons took a 6-2 lead at the break thanks to a four-goal first quarter – RC scored the first three goals of the game before junior Eric Hobby put the Hornets on the board with his first goal of the season at 5:49.
Shenandoah was held off the board until Brooks scored an EMO goal at 7:47 of the third – in this time, Roanoke scored six unanswered to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
SU would get no closer than seven goals the rest of the way.
Roanoke outshot the Hornets 53-38, had a 40-25 advantage in groundballs and won 14 of 22 faceoffs.
The Maroons were successful on their first 20 clears before finishing the evening 20 of 23.
Shenandoah goalie Ben Judy had 18 saves.
The Hornets travel to Hampden-Sydney Saturday for a 1:00 ODAC contest.
