WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team earned its first-ever ODAC win Saturday with a 11-10 home triumph over Randolph.
Shenandoah (5-4, 1-1 ODAC) led 9-2 at the break and 10-2 early in the third before Randolph (3-3, 0-2) began a furious comeback.
The WildCats scored eight of the game's final nine goals, including six straight, to cut the deficit to just one with 4:10 remaining.
This goal proved to be the game-winner.
Randolph had two shots following its final goal, including hitting the post with 50 seconds remaining, but could not find the equalizer.
Following that hit post, Shenandoah successfully cleared the ball and then was able to possess the ball in its offensive end for the remainder of the contest.
The Hornets, on the strength of three goals in the final 27 seconds of the first half, appeared to be headed to an easy victory, only to see the 'Cats mount the comeback.
Randolph was able to get itself back into it by winning four of five faceoffs in the fourth quarter and clear the ball at 90 percent rate.
The 'Cats had lost 12 of 20 faceoffs in the opening 45 minutes and had six failed clears in the first half.
Freshman Stephen LaTona paced the victors with four goals while Brooks had two goals and three assists.
Ben Judy had 12 saves in the winning effort.
SU is back in action at home on Wednesday at 7 in a non-league contest against Marymount.
