WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Virginia Wesleyan opened up the 2014 ODAC men's lacrosse schedule with a 21-7 win over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

The Marlins (4-0, 1-0 ODAC) took a 4-1 lead after one and then held Shenandoah (4-4, 0-1) off the board from the 11:34 mark of the second until 14:23 remained in the contest.

In this time, VWC scored 12 straight goals to take a 4-2 lead into a 16-3 advantage.

Junior Aaron Paul, off a Tilghman Sanders assist, finally snapped the scoreless string with a rocket from 12 yards out to open the fourth quarter scoring.

Virginia Wesleyan scored five of the game's next six goals before Shenandoah ended the game on a 3-0 run.

Sanders had two of those goals with Drew Brooks, who scored the Hornets first two goals, netting the other.

Virginia Wesleyan outshot SU 57-30, taking at least 12 shots in every quarter, and had 40-32 and 18 of 30 advantages in groundballs and faceoffs.

Nick Pappas led the victors with six goals and four assists for 10 points.

Ben Judy had 13 saves for the hosts with three VWC goalies splitting 14 saves.

Shenandoah is back in action next Saturday in a 1 p.m. ODAC contest against Randolph.
