Men's Lax Sinks Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team earned its fourth victory of the season Saturday afternoon with a 10-5 non-league win at SUNY-Maritime.

The Hornets (4-3) overcame a tough day at the faceoff 'x' to earn the five-goal victory over the Privateers (1-3).

Maritime won all 16 faceoffs on the day, and had a 36-30 advantage in groundballs, but SU made the most of its opportunities.

Coach Tim Marshall's club held its hosts off the board from the :24 second mark of the first until 8:27 remained in the third to help turn a 2-1 advantage into a 6-2 lead.

Following that Privateer goal at the 8:27 mark of the third, Shenandoah scored three of the game's next four goals to put the contest out of reach.

Freshman Frank Tejera set up classmate Stephen LaTona with the first two tallies in this run before Tilghman Sanders finished it with an unassisted goal 6:54 before the final gun.

Tejera and LaTona were the story offensively on the day, combining for seven goals and four assists.

LaTona had five goals and one assist to lead all players.

Goalkeeper Ben Judy made 15 saves, including nine in the second half, to help preserve the win.

The Hornets are back in next Saturday in their ODAC opener against Virginia Wesleyan. Game time is 1:00.
