Marlins Reel in Men's Lax

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Host Virginia Wesleyan scored the initial six goals of the game on its way to a 17-3 ODAC men's lacrosse victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon.

Virginia Wesleyan (4-2, 1-0 ODAC) held SU (5-2, 0-1) off the board for the first 19:13 of the contest as it raced out to the 6-0 lead.

Freshman Matt Justice finally snapped the scoreless string with his unassisted goal at 10:47 of the second, followed by a Bryan Pope goal 1:41 later, but this would be as close as the Hornets would get.

The Marlins reeled off a 6-0 run that sandwiched halftime, and after Colin Fowler fed Nick Rondeau at 6:10 of the third, scored the final five goals of the game.

VWC held a 48-39 advantage in shots, scooped up 59 of 93 groundballs and won 17 of 24 draws at the faceoff 'x'.

Tyler Quinn made 15 saves in the losing effort.

Shenandoah is off until traveling next Saturday night for an ODAC contest at Randolph.
