WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Randolph-Macon College earned its third men's lacrosse victory of the 2012 season with a 17-8 non-league win over Shenandoah Tuesday night.
Shenandoah (0-5) scored the opening goal of the game, but could only watch as R-MC (3-2) reeled off the next nine goals of the contest.
The Hornets were held scoreless for 24:44 until junior Bryan Pope scored unassisted 74 seconds before the halftime gun.
Pope, who led SU with three goals and two assists, also figured in the opening goal of the contest. He fed senior Sean Mack at 11:58 to give coach Mike Kruger's club the early lead in the final non-conference matchup between the two schools.
Next season, Shenandoah joins Randolph-Macon in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Macon tied it on a Tyler Midwinter goal at 8:17 before Jake Leddy gave the Yellow Jackets the lead for good by converting a Tim Rowe feed at the 6:00 mark of the first.
R-MC led 7-1 at the end of one and took a 9-2 lead into the halftime lockerroom.
Coming out of the break, the 'Jackets reeled off a five-goal run to take a 14-2 lead with 11:47 to play in the third.
From this point on, the Hornets scored six of the final nine goals of the contest.
In addition to Pope's five points, Mack had two goals and an assist and Courtney Ledden one goal and one assist.
Midwinter had a game-high eight points on three goals and five assists while Leddy added four goals and one assist.
R-MC outshot Shenandoah 36-27, won 31 of 53 groundballs and had a 15-12 advantage at the faceoff 'x'.
Macon keepers combined for nine saves. Tyler Quinn had five stops for the hosts.
SU hosts Elmira on Sunday in a non-league contest. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
