WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Elizabethtown College began its 2012 men's lacrosse season with a 16-5 non-league victory over Shenandoah University Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays (1-0) scored the first eight goals of the game and cruised to the 11-goal victory over SU (0-3).
Hedrick's goal started a 3-1 run for the Hornets that lasted until Shawn Corcoran fed Cory Boushell just one second before halftime to give the 'Jays a 10-3 halftime advantage.
The goal was one of three that Corcoran was involved in the final 30 seconds of a period. He scored unassisted with 23 seconds remaining in the first and 13 seconds left in the third.
Elizabethtown sealed its victory by scoring five of six third-period goals and holding the Hornets off the board from the 7:44 mark of the third until Hedrick tallied with just 38 seconds remaining in the game.
Hedrick led SU with three goals while Bryan Pope added two and Estoclet the lone assist.
Corcoran, with two goals and two assists, and Derek Kline (3,1) had four points each for the visitors.
E-town outshot Shenandoah 41-24 and won 52 of 89 groundballs. SU, on the strength of seven wins in the final 10 faceoffs, held a 12 of 23 advantage at the 'x'.
The Hornets are off until hosting Keuka (N.Y.) on Saturday, March 3, at 1 p.m.
