WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Hood College combined a strong defensive effort with an outstanding performance at the faceoff 'x' to defeat Shenandoah University 10-4 in non-conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday evening.
The Blazers (1-1) held Shenandoah (0-2) without a goal for the first 28:34 of the second to pull away and win their second straight game in the series between the two schools.
SU, which battled back from a 3-0 deficit to trail only 4-3 at the half, could only watch as HC won the first 16 faceoffs of the game and 16 of 17 on the evening.
Randolph Clark did most of this damage, winning 14 of his 15 draws and scooping up 10 groundballs.
Hood held a 52-19 advantage in groundballs.
Unfortunately for the Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium fans, this would the hosts final goal until Bryan Pope closed the book the evening's scoring with an unassisted goal at 1:26 of the fourth.
In between the two Shenandoah goals, the Blazers reeled off six of their own to build a comfortable margin.
Tyler Quinn had 14 saves for SU.
Hood outshot the Hornets 46-29.
Shenandoah continues its home play on Saturday at 1:00 against Elizabethtown.
