Three Named Captains for 2010 Season
WINCHESTER, Va. - SU Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Brian Jenkins announced Monday his captains for the 2010 season.
Jenkins, in his 13th season at the helm of the SU men's lax program, has named Kevin Totaro, Mac Hedrick and Joe Mechem as the three top leaders of his team.
Totaro is the lone senior in this group and Hedrick, despite being just a junior, is now in his second season as captain of the squad.
Totaro is a transfer from Towson University who played in all 12 games last season with eight goals and three assists. He contributed 11 ground balls and was second on the team with four man-up goals.
Hedrick, from nearby Reston, returns as a captain and as a starter on the attack. Hedrick earned CSAC Honor Roll accolades on March 30 after scoring a game-high six points on four goals and two assists in a win over Neumann College.
Mechem, a close defenseman, gives Jenkins a third captain that figures to see extensive time on the field this spring. A junior from Fredericksburg, Va., Mechem played in all 12 games last year and had 22 ground balls. He possesses excellent field awareness and runs the defense for Jenkins.
The men's first game is at Hood on February 27 and they open at home on March 6 versus Keuka (N.Y.).
