WASHINGTON, Pa. - Host Washington & Jefferson pitched a
shutout in the middle two quarters Saturday afternoon to key a 7-5
non-league men's lacrosse victory over visiting Shenandoah.
After Joe Avveduti tied the contest at 2-2 for SU (5-5), the
Presidents (5-4) held their visitors without a goal for the next
37:53 of game time.
Freshman Ricky Jones finally broke this scoreless string with his
unassisted goal one minute into the fourth quarter, but the hole
proved too deep for SU.
W&J led 7-3 following Jones' tally and allowed Shenandoah only
a pair of unassisted goals the rest of the way.
SU outshot the Presidents 29-28 and got 15 saves from senior Rodney
Mattison, but fell for the third time in the past four outings.
Washington & Jefferson won 11 of 16 face-offs on the day and
also scooped up 39 of the game's 72 groundballs.
Shenandoah hosts Cabrini on Saturday at 1:00.
