Men's Lax Rallies Over Knights
ASTON, Pa. - Shenandoah University earned its first Colonial
States Athletic Conference men's lacrosse victory of the season
Saturday afternoon with an 11-10 win at Neumann College.
Shenandoah (4-2, 1-1 CSAC) avoided a repeat of last week's game
with the win over the Knights (0-8, 0-1).
In last week's contest against Gwynedd-Mercy, SU went into the
fourth quarter leading by a goal only to see GMC pull out the
one-goal win by scoring all three of the goals in the final
stanza.
This Saturday, Shenandoah trailed Neumann by a goal as the fourth
quarter dawned, but earned the win by scoring twice and holding NU
off the board.
Senior James Gonzalez, who had a goal and three assists, scored the
game-winner when he converted a Mac Hedrick feed with 2:04
remaining.
Gonzalez' tally finished off a contest in which the Hornets held a
6-1 lead midway through the second quarter but found themselves
trailing 10-9 by the 1:05 mark of the third.
Neumann got itself back into it by sandwiching a 5-1 run around
halftime, and following a pair of Steve Mayor goals that put the
Hornets up 9-6 at 8:59 of third, reeled off four straight to take
that 10-9 advantage.
Hedrick paced the offense with four goals and two assists for six
points while Gonzalez had four points and Mayor three goals.
Rodney Mattison had 14 saves to earn his fourth victory of the
spring.
