Men Picked Second

ASTON, Pa. - The Shenandoah University men's lacrosse team has been picked second in the Colonial States Athletic Conference in a pre-season poll announced recently by the CSAC office.

The Hornets, who finished 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the CSAC (nee PAC) last season, had 38 points in a poll of the league's seven coaches.

Points are awarded on a 1-7 basis and coaches are allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.

Cabrini, which is won the last eight league titles, got a perfect 49 points to lead the poll.

Shenandoah's 38 points places it two points ahead of No. 3 pick Marywood and 10 in front of fourth place Centenary.

The top four teams from the regular season race advance to the CSAC Tournament, which begins on April 29 with semi-finals at the first and second seeds. The championship is scheduled for May 2 at the highest remaining seed.

"This is a great honor to be ranked this high by our peers going into the season with such a young team," SU coach Brian Jenkins said.

"We are looking forward to the challenge of trying to finish the season at the top of the conference."

Jenkins and the Hornets open up the 2009 campaign Friday night at 7:00 with a home game against Hood College.
