RICHMOND, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's golf team stands seventh Monday after day one of the VSGA Intercollegiate hosted at Stonehenge Golf and Country Club.

Shenandoah shot a collective 17-over-par 301, the Hornets second best round of the fall season, to complete the opening round in seventh place.

SU is three shots back of Mary Washington and three clear of both Apprentice and Ferrum.

Virginia Wesleyan leads after posting a five-over-par 289. The Marlins lead by one stroke over Washington and Lee.

Senior Doc Schulte paced Shenandoah with a one-over-par 72 with Blake Woodie recording a 73, Joseph Gesell 77 and Connor McCarthy 79.

Brett Dubin had an 82 that did not count toward the team score.

Schulte, who is in a six-way tie for eighth, is four shots back of tournament leader Josh Irby. Irby, from Lynchburg College, had a three-under 68 Monday.

The tournament concludes Tuesday. After playing to a par 71 at 6660 yards Monday, the course lengthens to 6720 yards on Tuesday.
