Bishops Down Men

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting N.C. Wesleyan completed a regular season sweep over the Shenandoah University men Tuesday evening with a 79-71 USA South Conference victory before 567 Shingleton Gymnasium fans.
The Bishops (10-9, 6-1 USA South) now hold a 1.5 game lead over second place Shenandoah (8-13, 5-3) and hold the tiebreaker over the Hornets in the race for the league's regular season crown.
With SU leading 46-40 following a Wayne Washington 3-pointer at the 13:29 mark, NCWC reeled off a 14-1 run over the next 5:17 to take total control of the contest.
Now with a 54-47 lead at the 7:47 mark, the Bishops held at least a two-point advantage the rest of the way.
The Hornets got it to that two point deficit on two different occasions, the last with 4:54 remaining, before NC Wesleyan pulled away with another big run.
This spurt was 13-2 in just 1:46 and gave the visitors its biggest advantage, 13 points, with 2:56 left.
Shenandoah began to foul in an attempt to get back in it, but the Bishops made 12 of their final 14 attempts from the charity stripe to ice the victory.
Jarmel Arrington led the victors with a game-high 21 while Trey Drake added 19.
Mitch Dudley had 15 points with 11 rebounds, Washington added 14 points, Brandon Bryan 13 and Kevin Kline 12 to give the hosts four players in double figures.
