Golf Ninth After Day One
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Shenandoah University stands ninth after day one of the 2009 Virginia State Golf Championships at Wintergreen Resort.
Junior Josh Wiegand led the Hornets over the par-72, 6790-yard Wintergreen Resort course with a two-over-par 74 that puts him in a tie for fifth place.
There are 59 golfers in the 12 team event.
Randolph-Macon leads the 36-hole tournament after day one with a collective 300; they are seven strokes in front of fellow ODAC member Roanoke.
Shenandoah is tied for ninth at 328; the Hornets and Virginia Wesleyan are both seven strokes ahead of 11th place Ferrum.
Sophomore Derek Snarr backed up Wiegand with a 78 while Aaron DeHaven had an 85.
The tournament concludes on Monday.
