Golf Fifth in Fall Opener
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Shenandoah University golf team improved by six strokes Sunday to help itself finish fifth at the N.C. Wesleyan Fall Invitational.
After shooting 322 on day one at Ford's Colony Rocky Mount, the Hornets improved to a 316 Sunday afternoon in the final round of the 36-hole event.
The two-day total of 638 was good enough for fifth of seven teams that recorded team scores in both rounds.
Sophomore Derek Snarr, who had a four-over-par 76 on Saturday, completed the tournament as Shenandoah's medalist with a two-over 74 on par-72, 7085-yard layout.
Josh Wiegand rebounded from an 83 on Saturday to back up Snarr with a 79 Sunday while Aaron DeHaven and Matt Bassford rounded out the team's scores with an 81 and an 82, respectively.
David Rynecki went 85-89--174 from the fifth position.
Shenandoah continues fall play this coming weekend at the Tom Kinder Memorial hosted by Bridgewater College.
