Golf Seventh at H-SC
FARMVILLE, Va. - Led by a day two low individual round, Shenandoah University finished seventh at the Hampden-Sydney Golf Invitational Tuesday afternoon at The Manor Golf Club.
Junior Josh Wiegand, who had a 12-over-par 84 in extremely difficult scoring conditions Monday over the par-72, 7214-yard Manor GC course, fired a co-tournament best one-over-par 73 Tuesday to lead the Hornets to a collective 330 score on day two.
The 21-stroke improvement over day one allowed SU to finish seventh of 12 teams in the 36-hole event.
Wiegand finished fourth overall.
Three of the four qualifying golfers improved their individual score by at least five strokes. Derek Snarr went from 86 to 81 and Aaron DeHaven rebounded from a 95 with 86 in the final round.
Matt Bassford, who matched Snarr's 86 Monday, shot 90 to round out the team score.
Christopher Newport won the tournament in a tie-breaker (score of the fifth man on day two) over Randolph-Macon and host Hampden-Sydney.
Shenandoah continues fall play this weekend with its own invitational at Winchester Country Club.
