Golf Shoots 311

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Shenandoah University continued its fall golf season with a collective 311 Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the Tom Kinder Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Bridgewater College.

SU is seventh of 11 teams in the 36-hole event at the par-72, 6500-yard Lakeview Golf Course. Host Bridgewater leads the event with a 290 while the Hornets trail sixth place Randolph-Macon by just two shots. Shenandoah is eight strokes clear of eighth place Lynchburg.

Junior Josh Wiegand led the Hornets with a two-over-par 74 - he is tied for eighth overall and is just one shot from a tie for fifth.

Playing with just the minimum four golfers, sophomore Derek Snarr backed up Wiegand with a 77 while David Rynecki and Aaron DeHaven both carded 80. Snarr is tied for 18th.

The tournament concludes with another 18-hole round on Sunday.
