Golf Sixth at Hampden-Sydney

FARMVILLE, Va. - Shenandoah University shot a collective 646 Monday and Tuesday to finish sixth at the Hampden-Sydney Tournament in Farmville.

The Hornets two-day total of 646 over the par 72, 7214-yard The Manor course placed the team sixth out of 12 teams competing in the tournament. SU finished two shots in front of host H-SC and 10 strokes behind fifth-place Roanoke.

Fellow USA South Conference member Christopher Newport University won the 36-hole tourney by 10 shots over Averett. CNU shot 312-304--616 while AU posted a 316-310--626.

The Captains also had the individual medalist - Matt Wagner shot a combined four-over-par 148 to win the honror by two shots over Washington & Lee's Robert Womble.

Freshman Derek Snarr led Shenandoah with a 77-77--154 that was good for fourth place overall in the tournament. Snarr had the third-best performance of any USA South golfer.

Senior Joe Orsino finished 14th with a pair of 79s while Aaron DeHaven and Taylor Chamberlin both tied for 41st with 167 total.

Shenandoah is back in action next week at the Virginia State Division III Championships.
