SALEM, Va. – Shenandoah University ran won its second straight field hockey game to start the 2010 season with a 3-2 non-conference victory over Roanoke College.

The Hornets (2-0) rallied for the victory over the Maroons (1-2); RC got a Llanna Hachborn goal just 100 seconds into the contest to take the early lead.

However, SU did not fold its tents, tying it on a Katie Johnson unassisted tally in the 28^th minute before Kaitlin Sommer gave the visitors the lead for good with her goal 58 seconds before halftime.

Five minutes into the second half, Sommer found Maria Payne among a host of women in front and Payne delivered, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Roanoke outshot the Hornets 22-13, although both teams had 10 shots on goal.

SU keeper Sarah Clare made eight saves.

The Hornets return to action on Thursday at 4:00 with a non-league home game against Bridgewater.
