Katie Johnson Earns MAC Honor
ANNVILLE, Pa. - Freshman Katie Johnson has been named MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week in selections announced Tuesday by the MAC office.
Johnson, a defender, helped the Hornets to their first field hockey victory in 16 matches last Tuesday afternoon by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime of a 2-1 win over Wilson College.
The goal, which happened 37 seconds into the second OT, snapped a 15-match losing streak that stretched back to the final game of the 2007 field hockey season.
This is the first MAC honor for a SU field hockey player - the Hornets joined the MAC as associate members in field hockey for the 2009 season.
Johnson and her teammates are off this week until hosting Roanoke College on Saturday at 2.
