Marlins Spear Hockey

WINCHESTER, Va. - Visiting Virginia Wesleyan broke open a scoreless game with a strong second half on its way to a 4-0 non-league field hockey victory over Shenandoah Sunday afternoon.

With neither team able to find the back of the net in the first 35-minutes, VWC (3-12) scored four times in a 21-minute span of the second.

Whitney King got things started with her unassisted goal at 39:26 while Casey Chauvenet finished off a feed from Ashton Perry just less than two minutes later.

The Marlins kept up the pressure with the two goal advantage, scoring in the 57th and 61st minutes to provide the final margin of victory.

VWC outshot Shenandoah 20-2 and held a 21-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Shenandoah goalie Danielle Lawson made 12 saves in the loss.
