NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Shenandoah University had six student-athletes earn Academic All-State honors in selections announced Friday by the Virginia State Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Denise Mitchell (softball) leads this list of three men and three women by earning a perfect 4.0 GPA this past spring. Mitchell's teammate, Jordan Wolford, and men's soccer player Kyle Masson just missed perfect semesters by both achieving 3.95 on a 4.0 scale.
The six student-athletes have an average cumulative GPA of 3.7.
Garcia, Smith and Erdman all achieved on-field playing honors during the 2010-11. Smith was the individual champion at the USA South Cross Country Championships and qualified for the national championships.
