FERRUM, Va. –  Host Ferrum College snapped Shenandoah University's two-game football winning streak with a 56-20 USA South Conference win Saturday afternoon at Adams Field.

Ferrum (3-4, 3-1 USA South) rolled up 523 yards in total offense and scored a pair of special teams touchdowns to key the victory over Shenandoah (2-5, 2-2).

The Panthers took a 14-0 lead before the game was 10 minutes old with the initial 80 yards of offense and the first of those special teams TD's.

Quarterback Marcus Mayo drove FC 80 yards in eight plays on the opening possession, gaining 33 yards himself on the ground and accounting for another 40 yards through the air.

Sophomore Brad Martz then fumbled the ensuing kickoff for SU, which the Panthers returned 24 yards for their second touchdown in a matter of 10 seconds.

Martz redeemed himself just before halftime by capping a four-play, 63-yard drive by hauling in a 5-yard TD pass.

Taking over on its own 37 following a Blake Campbell interception, SU went exclusively through the air to score its first TD.

Quarterback Daniel Wright was a perfect 4 for 4 on the drive, hitting Rico Wallace on the first three plays to set the Hornets up with a 1st and goal on the Ferrum 5 with 19 seconds remaining. The big play in this series was a 36-yard strike that put the visitors in the red zone for the first time all day.

Shenandoah burned its second timeout following this completion, and used the extra time wisely.  Coming out of that time out, Wright found Martz at 1 and Martz did the rest, bulldozing his way in for the TD.

Wright and Wallace hooked up on the opening drive of the second half, with Wright hitting Wallace for a 56-yard TD pass, but the eight-point deficit was short-lived.

Steven Harris, who had three TD's on the day, returned the Andrew Lloyd 93-yards for a touchdown and effectively ended the contest.

Another Wright to Wallace touchdown pass, this one 58 yards, represented the Hornets final score.

Wright became the first Shenandoah quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards with a 19 for 27 day that included three TDs and one interception.

Wallace had school records for receptions and yards with his nine catch, 224-yard day. Wallace was one of four players to hold the previous record of eight receptions in a contest.

Shenandoah hosts Averett next Saturday night at 7 p.m. in another USA South Conference contest.
