FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Sophomore linebacker John Redmond has been named USA South Conference Defensive Player of the Week in selections announced Monday by the conference office.
Redmond, in his first full season as a starter, had a co-game-high five solo tackles to go along with six assisted tackles in Saturday's 22-19 home loss to Maryville.
Included in those 11 stops were four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. Additionally, Redmond picked off a pass in the first half.
This is Redmond's second-ever conference honor. He was named as the league's defensive Rookie of the Week following last's season's Maryville contest.
In two career games against the Scots, Redmond has 23 tackles.
Redmond and the Hornets travel to Methodist University this Saturday for a 1:00 USA South Conference contest.
