WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 1/1 Shenandoah University posted a pair of big innings on its way to a 16-4 non-league baseball victory over Marymount Monday afternoon.

Shenandoah (28-3) batted around in the second and sixth innings, scoring a combined 11 runs, to dispatch the Saints (15-17).

In the six-run second, SU scored the six runs on just one hit as Marymount starter Justin DiDonato (2-1) hit three batters and walked four. Neil Dutton, the second hitter of the frame, had the lone hit when he singled through the left side after Luke Nussman was hit by pitch to lead off the inning.

MU touched Hornets starter Michael Bugonowicz (5-0) for three runs on three hits in the top of the sixth, but the SU offense responded with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the frame to expand the lead out to nine runs.

Nussman and Dutton had RBI singles in the inning with Nick Goode and Donnie Forgacs driving in runs on a fielder's choice and a groundball to third that went for an error, respectively.

Catcher Dan Cameron drove in his only run of the game in the eighth inning as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Cameron had six plate appearances in the game without recording an official at-bat as he was hit by pitch four times and drew two walks.

The four times being hit by pitch ties a school record set by Dave Galford (who was also a catcher) versus Columbia Union on March 17, 1999.

Shenandoah scored its final two runs as Marymount committed its fifth error of the game on a Jake Loew groundball up the middle.

Senior Nate Loman pitched a scoreless ninth, striking out two, in relief of Bugonowicz.

Bugonowicz pitched 8.0 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out four.

Loew, Nussman and Dutton all finished with two hits.

DiDonato was tagged with the loss after allowing six runs (five earned) on one hit, six walks and three hit batsmen.

Four of the Hornets 16 runs were unearned.

Shenandoah returns to ODAC play on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home contest versus Eastern Mennonite.
