Four Earn All-Region Honors

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Shenandoah University had four baseball players earn All-South Region honors in selections announced Friday morning by the website.

Seniors Cory Nelson and Jake Pendergraft, along with junior Nick Beall, earned first team honors with senior Mike Minch grabbing second team accolades.

Nelson was selected as a utility player, Pendergraft as an outfielder and Beall as the first team DH with Minch picking up the nod at second base.

All four players previously earned All-USA South honors this spring. Pendergraft and Beall were named to the first team, Nelson was a second team pick at both utility and pitcher and Minch was selected to the USA South All-Tournament team.

Beall currently leads the 31-11 Hornets with a .426 average while Pendergraft is just behind him at .415.

In two games this week at the Newport News Regional, Pendergraft is hitting .667 with six hits in nine at-bats. Beall is hitting an even .500 and has four RBI in eight at-bats.

Nelson tossed 8 2/3 innings of seven-hit ball in a 6-1 win over No. 5 Salisbury University yesterday afternoon.

Minch is currently hitting .264 and has made only one error in 155 chances this season.

SU is back in action at the regional this afternoon with a 4:30 game against the winner of the Salisbury/Messiah contest.
