Baseball Falls on Senior Day

WINCHESTER, Va. - No. 17/21 Shenandoah University completed its baseball regular season with a 15-6 non-league loss to Wesley College Sunday afternoon.

Playing a lineup that had seven seniors in its starting lineup, including two making their first starts of the season, the Hornets (29-11) saw Wesley (28-14) take control with six runs in the second inning.

Shenandoah issued five walks and committed three errors in the frame and so the Wolverines needed just one hit to score those six runs.

SU made things interesting with three runs of its own in the bottom of the frame to make it 6-5, but Wesley scored twice in the third and four more in the fourth to pull away.

Five of the Wolverines 15 runs were unearned, including three of six scored off of Hornets starter Adam Emerson (0-2).

Emerson allowed the six runs (three earned) on three hits and six walks in 1 2/3 innings.

Emerson was one of six SU players to take to the mound on Sunday.

Joey Donofrio and Chris Ferry both had two hits for the Hornets with designated hitter Nick Beall driving in three runs on a 1 for 3 afternoon.

Beall had the last RBI of the day, playing Mike Minch with a double to left center in the seventh.

Geoff Kimmel paced the victors with a 4 for 5, 4 RBI afternoon.

DJ Keckler (7-3) went the distance for WC, allowing six runs on nine hits and seven walks while striking out six.

The loss completes Shenandoah's regular season. SU will now wait to see if they receive a Pool C berth into the NCAA Tournament.
