Baseball Receives Votes in Pre-Season Poll

MESA, Ariz. - The Shenandoah University baseball team is among a host of teams receiving pre-season ranking consideration in a poll released recently by Collegiate Baseball.

Shenandoah, coming off of a best-ever 37-7 season that included a USA South Conference regular season title, is one of 28 teams in the 'Other Top Teams' category of the pre-season Top 30 poll.

Marietta (Ohio), the 2011 Division III champion, is the pre-season No. 1.

SU plays five teams appearing in the pre-season poll including No. 4 Christopher Newport and No. 5 Cortland (N.Y.) State.

In addition, the Hornets face No. 17 Salisbury and both Randolph-Macon and Misercordia (Pa.), who join SU in the 'top teams' category.

Coach Kevin Anderson has four returning All-USA South honorees: Cory Nelson, Kurt Krout, Nick Beall and Kyle Scallion, to lead the team this spring.

Shenandoah opens the 2012 campaign on February 17 against the fifth-ranked Red Dragons before hosting Misericordia in a doubleheader the following day.
