Van Sickler Named to VBL All-Star Game

WINCHESTER, Va. - Rising junior Greg Van Sickler has been named to the 2009 Valley Baseball League All-Star game in selections announced Sunday by the VBL.

Van Sickler, who earned ABCA All-America honors this past season as he led the Hornets to the Division III World Series, was named to the North team as a pitcher.

Van Sickler currently is 2-1 this summer for the Front Royal Cardinals with a 3.61 ERA and 22 strikeouts against two walks in 24.2 innings.

A combo player, Van Sickler is also hitting .432 with 16 hits in 37 at-bats as a designated hitter/first baseman.

The VBL All-Star game, which will be played on July 12 at Central High School in Woodstock, will have free substitution so Van Sickler will have the opportunity to both hit and pitch in the contest.

This is the second consecutive year that an SU player has earned a spot in the VBL All-Star game. Rising senior Jesse Henry, who plays with Van Sickler with Front Royal, earned a spot in the 2008 contest.

On July 15, the VBL will take on the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League in the first-ever Mid-Atlantic Summer Classic. He has been named to that team as well. For complete information on both teams, please click here
