Van Sickler Earns PoW Honor

STAUNTON, Va. - Rising senior Greg Van Sickler has been named Valley League Pitcher of the Week in selections announced Monday afternoon by the VBL office.

Van Sickler, who earned ABCA All-America honors for the second time this past spring after leading Shenandoah to USA South Conference and South Region titles, is in his second summer pitching for the Front Royal Cardinals of the VBL.

Van Sickler was named to the 2009 VBL All-Star game and to the VBL All-Star team that played against a group of Cal Ripken League last summer and has picked up this season right where he left off last year with the Cards.

In 20.0 innings over three starts this season, Van Sickler has 26 strikeouts against just one walk and two earned runs allowed.

This past Friday, Van Sickler helped Front Royal to a 6-0 win over Luray by tossing 6 2/3 innings of scoreless ball with 11 punch outs.

This is his first VBL weekly honor.
