Brashears and Van Sickler Named All-America

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Shenandoah University had two baseball players earn All-America honors in selections announced Wednesday morning by D3baseball.com.

Juniors Kevin Brashears and Greg Van Sickler were both named first team All-America by D3baseball.com with Brashears picking up his honor in the outfield at Van Sickler at utility.

Brashears, who leads the team with a .429 average and a school record 87 hits, adds his first All-America accolade to a career in which he has been named as the 2009 Salisbury Regionale Most Outstanding Player and the 2010 USA South Conference Tournament MVP.

A centerfielder, Brashears was also named first team All-South Region and to the Gold Glove team by the ABCA this spring.

Van Sickler, a 2009 ABCA All-America, the 2010 ABCA South Region Player of the Year and the 2010 USA South Conference Pitcher of the Year, is hitting .411 with a school record 27 doubles in addition to winning eight of his 10 decisions on the mound.

Van Sickler, who was also tabbed as an ESPN The Magazine third team Academic All-American on Tuesday, was named first team All-USA South at both pitcher and utility and was both a USA South and Fayetteville Regional All-Tournament selection.

Shenandoah, ranked seventh by the ABCA and ninth by D3baseball.com, opens up 2010 NCAA national championship play on Friday night at 7:45 CDT against Illinois Wesleyan.
