Headed to Fayetteville

INDIANAPOLIS – Shenandoah University has been selected to the Fayetteville (N.C.) Regional of the 2010 NCAA Baseball Championships in selections announced Monday morning by the NCAA.

Shenandoah (34-8) is the top seed in the six-team regional bracket and will face No. 6 Bridgewater in the opening game of the tournament on Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The Hornets and Eagles, the USA South Conference and ODAC champions, respectively, will be joined by Salisbury (Md.), Mary Washington, York (Pa.) and LaGrange (Ga.) in the regional.

Shenandoah, Mary Washington and Bridgewater all qualified for the tournament via Pool A (automatic bid) while LaGrange is a Pool B and Salisbury and York (Pa.) come from Pool C (at-large).

The Hornets won the 2009 South Regional, hosted by Salisbury, as a Pool C selection.

Methodist University is the 2010 host and all games will be played at Armstrong-Shelly Field on Methodist's campus. SU is has a 1-1 record at Armstrong-Shelly this season, splitting a USA South Conference series with Methodist University.

The Hornets are 1-0 this year against the regional field, having defeated Bridgewater in March.
