Brashears Leads Nation

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Junior Kevin Brashears leads NCAA Division III in three different statistical categories in rankings released Tuesday afternoon by the association.

Brashears, who was named as the USA South Conference Tournament MVP two weeks ago, currently leads the nation in runs, hits and total bases. He is also fourth in home runs, ninth in RBI and 10th in doubles.

Brashears is one of six players to be in the nation's top 10 in a statistical category.

Greg Van Sickler is currently second in doubles and sacrifice flies (one behind the nation's leader in both) and in a six-way-tie for ninth in hits.

Two of those other five people in the tie for ninth in hits wear an SU uniform - Jon Holcomb and Jesse Henry also currently have 68 hits.

Scott Van Dusseldorp rounds out the hitters in the top 10 by coming in at fifth in RBI and ninth in total bases.

On the pitching side, sophomore Kyle Scallion is fourth in the nation with seven saves.

As a team, the Hornets lead in both hits and runs and are third in doubles and sacrifice flies.
