Hornets Seventh in ABCA Poll

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Shenandoah University jumped seven spots to No. 7 in the nation in the American Baseball Coaches Association poll released Tuesday morning by the ABCA.

The Hornets, who qualified for the NCAA Tournament on Sunday by winning the USA South Conference championship, have 174 points in the first ABCA poll in two weeks.

This is the highest that SU has ever been ranked in the ABCA poll during the regular season.

Shenandoah improved by more spots than any of the teams ranked in the April 6 poll and is now the second-highest ranked team in the South Evaluation Region that is eligible for the 2010 playoffs.

UW-Whitewater, with five first place votes and 236 points, is the nation's top ranked team. Johns Hopkins (Md.), with two first-place votes, stands just two points back of the Warhawks.

This is one of two polls that the Hornets are ranked in this week. SU is tied for ninth in the D3baseball.com poll and ranked 10th in tie-breaking criteria.

The Hornets are back in action Wednesday evening against Dickinson.
