Baseball Returns to Top Ten
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Shenandoah University jumped another five spots in this week's NCBWA/D3baseball.com poll released Tuesday morning by the Web site.
Thanks to a 5-0 week that included two wins over USA South Conference opponent Ferrum and an 8-1 win over perennial power Elizabethtown, the Hornets are the No. 9 team in the week seven poll.
This is the highest the team has been ranked in 2010. SU was the No. 9 team in the pre-season poll, but fell to 20th in week one.
With 18 wins in the last 20 games, Shenandoah has moved up 11 spots in the last three weeks.
St. Thomas (Minn.) suffered its first Division III loss of the season this week, but kept the top spot in the poll with 22 of the possible 25 first-place votes and 621 points.
Chapman (Calif.) is second, followed UW-Whitewater and Heidelberg (Ohio). All three of those schools got one first-place vote.
The Hornets, with 379 points, are in between Trinity (Conn.) and Ponoma-Pitzer (Calif.) in the poll.
Shenandoah is off until opening USA South Conference Tournament play on Thursday with sixth-seeded Averett.
