Van Sickler Earns PoW Honor

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah University junior Greg Van Sickler has been named USA South Conference Pitcher of the Week in selections announced Monday by the conference office.

Van Sickler, who was named a both a pre-season All-American by D3baseball.com and as the pre-season Player of the Year by Baseball America this season, earns his first conference honor of 2010 after tossing a one-hitter in a 6-0 victory over Richard Stockton (N.J.) Sunday morning.

Van Sickler struck out six, walked two and hit a batter as he earned his fifth straight victory in decisions dating back to the middle of last season.

Stockton only had a leadoff single in the sixth to prevent Van Sickler from throwing his first career no-hitter.

Van Sickler and the Hornets are now scheduled to take the field again this Saturday in their USA South Conference opener at N.C. Wesleyan.
