Baseball Rallies over Wolverines
DOVER, Del. - No. 21 Shenandoah University took another step forward Saturday afternoon in its quest for an NCAA Tournament berth with an 8-6 non-league baseball win over Wesley College.
The Hornets (33-8) got their 25th non-league win (and 23rd straight in out-of-conference contests) with the victory over the Wolverines (24-16-1).
Trailing 6-1 after Wesley scored three in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth, Shenandoah rallied by scoring four runs on four hits in the sixth.
Jesse Henry, Greg Van Sickler, Cory Nelson and Adam Delauter all drove in runs in the frame with the first three in this group doing it with singles.
One inning later, Nelson completed the comeback with a two-run single to give SU the lead for good.
Senior Matthew Davis (3-1), who came on with two outs in the fourth, worked the final 5.1 innings to earn the victory.
Davis struck out seven and allowed just one hit to earn his second relief win in the past eight days.
Scott Lambert, Henry and Nelson had two hits apiece for the Hornets, who had nine hits off of four WC pitchers.
Shenandoah completes its regular season on Wednesday at regionally ranked Frostburg State.
