Simons Named All-America

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Senior pitcher Josh Simons has been named a D3baseball.com All-America in selections announced Wednesday by the Web site.

Simons, who was the only Hornets player named first team All-USA South and now becomes the program's first D3baseball.com All-American, is currently 5-0 over 57.0 innings and 10 appearances this spring. In his last three starts, Simons owns two wins over 2009 USA South Conference champion N.C. Wesleyan and a complete-game victory over York (Pa.) in the Salisbury Regional. He is a third team All-America selection and the only SU player to be selected to one of the three teams and the honorable mention squad.

Simons is expected to make the start in Shenandoah's second game of the Division III Championships this weekend in Appleton, Wisc.

Simons is the fourth baseball player in program history to be named All-America. Jeremy Schutt (first team) and Geoff Williams (second team) were selected in 2000, and Ryan Anderson was a second team pick in 2006.

Also a part-time starter at second base, Simons sports a .325 average and 16 RBI in 87 at-bats for coach Kevin Anderson.

Shenandoah opens play at the 2009 NCAA Baseball Championships on Friday at 5:30 EDT against Farmingdale (N.Y.) State.
