Baseball Pounds Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. - No. 24 Shenandoah University extended its baseball winning streak to eight games with a 14-4 USA South Conference win at Ferrum College Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (24-4, 4-3 USA South) have not lost since dropping a 4-3, 11-inning decision at No. 18 Christopher Newport two weeks ago.

Saturday at longtime league power Ferrum (10-11, 2-5), Shenandoah trailed 1-0 early before exploding for four runs in fourth and seven more in the sixth.

SU had seven of its 20 hits in that fateful sixth with Kevin Brashears, Scott Lambert and Jesse Henry all driving in runs. Henry cleared the bases with his hit - he had a three-run dinger that plated both Brashears and Lambert in front of him.

The offense was again sufficient for sophomore Greg Van Sickler (5-1), who went 6.2 innings before turning it over to senior Matt Davis.

Van Sickler allowed four runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five. Davis continued his strong pitching of late by striking out two and allowing no hits in his 2.1 innings of action. The only two runners he allowed reached via hit by pitch.

Henry paced the offense with four hits and four RBI in five at-bats, Van Sickler was 3 for 5 with four RBI and Brashears had three hits.

Box Score

These two teams complete the weekend series tomorrow at 1:00.
