Baseball Ranked in Two Polls
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn./MUHLENBERG, Pa. - Heading into NCAA Selection Sunday, Shenandoah University baseball team is ranked nationally in two polls released Tuesday by two different organizations.
The Hornets remain at No. 18 in the NCBWA/D3baseball.com poll for the second straight week while entering the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll at No. 27.
This is the sixth straight week that the Hornets (33-8) have been ranked in the NCBWA/D3baseball.com national poll. SU has been as high as No. 17 and has been ranked 18th for the past two weeks.
The Hornets, who were idle last week after their scheduled contest at Frostburg State was rained out, have 199 points in that poll to stand eight points back of George Fox (Ore.) and 13 in front of Ithaca (N.Y.).
SU is once again the only USA South team in the poll. Christopher Newport, who was No. 24 last week, dropped out after suffering a loss and a tie in a non-league doubleheader against Stevenson.
This is the first time since 2000 that Shenandoah has been ranked the ABCA Top 30 poll. After receiving votes last week, SU moved to No. 27 with 37 total points. The Hornets are one place in front George Fox in this poll, two back of fellow USA South member N.C. Wesleyan and one place ahead of Penn State - Behrend.
The 54-team NCAA Tournament field is scheduled to be released at 12:01 a.m. Monday morning.
