Intercollegiate athletics at Shenandoah University are played on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Level in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and strictly follow all the guidelines set by the NCAA and the league. The Board of Trustees has endorsed the following statement of philosophy:

Shenandoah University is committed to the overall development of its students and supports all of its men and women in their pursuit of intercollegiate athletic competition. The University will adhere to the principles and spirit of fair play and sportsmanship through the rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA and is committed to the equal treatment of all of its student-athletes, both male and female.

The University is further committed to the academic success and the overall health and welfare of its student-athletes. To that end, the University will assure that student-athletes will have the opportunity to reach the highest levels of performance by being provided adequate training and playing facilities, competent coaching and an appropriate level of academic support.
