WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University Head Athletics Trainer Mike Kotelnicki announced Monday that he has hired Meghan Starliper as an assistant athletics trainer.
Starliper, a 2005 John Handley High School graduate, comes to Shenandoah after completing her Master’s Degree at the University of Virginia two weeks ago. While at UVa., Starliper served as a graduate assistant athletics trainer at St. Anne’s-Belfield, a boarding school in Charlottesville.
Starliper graduated from James Madison University in 2009 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Athletic Training and was the recipient of the Sports Medicine Directors Award in her senior year.
At JMU, she worked with the field hockey, men’s basketball, softball and women’s swimming and diving teams as well as Harrisonburg High School athletic programs.
“I am really excited to be back in Winchester and working for a university that I have followed my entire life,” Starliper said. “It is going to be great working in a department that has grown so much.”
Starliper will be working with the Hornets women’s soccer, basketball and softball teams as well as assisting Kotelnicki with the men’s and women’s track & field programs. Her appointment also completes the expansion of the SU Athletic Training staff to four full-time athletics trainers.
Three weeks ago, Josh Rader was added as an assistant athletic trainer after working part-time at SU since January. Rader, who worked with men’s basketball and baseball in the spring semester, adds women’s field hockey to his duties this coming fall.
“We had a number of excellent candidates for these positions,” Kotelnicki said. “I was impressed with Meghan from the start, and she made a very positive impression upon our coaches.
“I just want to thank everyone at Shenandoah again for helping us to make these additions a reality. Our student-athletes deserve the best care possible, and Meghan and Josh are going to make that goal much easier to achieve.”
Starliper starts her full-time duties August 1.
