Four Earn Conference Honors
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Four Shenandoah University student-athletes have been honored by the USA South Conference in selections announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Juniors Greg Van Sickler and Ashley Plaugher, sophomore Brooke Over and freshman Tori Beasley have all been honored by the league for their performances last week.
Van Sickler, a member of the baseball team, was tabbed as the USA South Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing a four-hitter in a 4-2, complete game victory over Methodist on Saturday. Van Sickler struck out six and walked just one on his way to being named as the Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season.
At the plate, he hit .733 with 11 RBI and four extra base hits.
Plaugher and Over were selected as the softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
Plaugher led the Hornets to a 4-0 week, including a doubleheader sweep of No. 1 in the nation Messiah, by hitting .571 (8 for 14) with five RBI, three doubles and one walk.
In that doubleheader sweep over Messiah, Plaugher was a combined 3 for 6 with three runs scored and one double.
Over was 2-0 on the week, throwing a complete game against Messiah on Wednesday and 5.0 innings against Neumann Thursday.
Over had a combined 11 strikeouts and only walked three in notching the two wins.
Beasley is the final selection and she was honored as the women's lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.
Beasley backstopped the Hornets to a 14-1 win over N.C. Wesleyan and a 14-11 victory over Ferrum, improving the team's overall record to 4-3 and 3-0 in conference action.
In the two games, the freshman made a combined 13 saves (nine against Ferrum) while facing 35 shots.
