Five Named USA South Player of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah University earned five USA South Conference Player of the Week awards in selections announced Monday by the conference office.
The women's soccer team, with two wins and a tie last week, led the way with two selections. This is the second straight week that the team has had two players honored.
Sophomore Kat Terza was named as the league's Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week while freshman Sara Hensley earned Rookie of the Week honors. Terza, a 2008 first team All-USA South honoree, had a combined 20 saves as the Hornets defeated Randolph-Macon 3-2 and Methodist 2-0. The team completed the week with a 2-2 tie against Greensboro.
Trailing 2-0 in the second half of the Greensboro game, Hensley stepped up with two goals in a 10-minute span to help SU salvage the tie. The two goals were the first of her career.
Senior Adam Aldinger gave soccer a third honoree with his selection as men's Player of the Week for the second straight week. Aldinger had two goals in the Hornets 3-1 win over Stevenson on September 27 and he has a league-best eight goals so far this season.
The cross country team rounds out the honorees with one men's and one women's selection.
Freshman Roni Frye was named as the women's Rookie of the Week for the third time in three weeks of competition this season. This past week Frye led the No. 9 in the South Region women to a third-place finish at the Don Cathcart Invitational hosted by Salisbury University with a school-record best 22:30 for 6000 meters.
She was seventh of 108 runners in the race.
On the men's side, sophomore Kyle Gutierrez matched Frye by setting a new school-record in the 8000 meters with a 26:52.
Gutierrez finished 25th overall of 107 runners.
