Two Attend Development Conference
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Shenandoah University had two student-athletes attend the 2009 NCAA Student-Athlete Development Conference this past weekend at Disney World Resort outside of Orlando.
Kevin Schaeffer, a soccer/track athlete, and Rachel Maki, a member of the volleyball team, were among 600 student-athletes who participated in the conference Sunday through Wednesday.
The conference was held to enhance both the skill set and the knowledge base of the student-athletes though discussion and video presentations.
U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio); Reggie Love, a personal aide to President Obama; former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Rodney Slater and Angela Taylor, the VP/General Manager of the Washington Mystics all were scheduled to give video presentations.
The U.S. Army present seminars on both energy management and attention control while National City Bank personnel will offered advice on financial responsibility and money management.
Attendees had an opportunity to spend time with each other work additional topics including sportsmanship and had inititative activities at Disney's Wide World of Sports.
Schaeffer and Maki were chosen from 2000 nominations across all three NCAA divisions.
