Two Selected for NCAA Sports Forum

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University student-athletes Jimmy Bungert and Ashley Heroth have been selected to represent SU in at the annual NCAA Career in Sports Forum in selections announced recently by the NCAA.

The Forum is a four-day event where selected student-athletes will explore and be educated on careers in sports with a primary focus on collegiate athletics.  Thru the use of dual tracks, student-athletes will examine the key functions of a coach or administrator such as communication, networking, and recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting.

The Forum is conducted in a two-year rotation for NCAA sponsored sports with this inaugural forum for students primarily interested in coaching baseball, basketball, bowling, football, gymnastics, lacrosse, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, track and field, volleyball and wrestling.

Bungert is a two-year member of the Hornets men's lacrosse team while Heroth plays both lacrosse and field hockey.

Bungert, a junior from Allentown, Pa., is a history major and investigating a minor in political science who has been interested in coaching lacrosse since he was a young child.  As a middle school student, he began his coaching career by coaching youth league teams and camps.  "This forum may provide me with an opportunity to pursue a career in coaching that will allow me to simultaneously continue my education and provide me with valuable administrative skills and training," Bungert said.

Heroth is also in her junior year and is a Sports Administration major.  As soon as Heroth graduated from high school, she began her coaching career with youth field hockey.  She hopes that this forum will give her the basic knowledge and skills to become a confident and successful coach.  "I am interested in coaching because sports are a big passion in my life and the next step in my sports career would be coaching, and I now have the desire to become one," said Heroth.

The Forum will take place May 11-14 at the Downtown Marriott in Indianapolis, Indiana and the NCAA is covering all costs of the program for the student-athletes participating.
